yea they will all be available as DLC later on but hey why not? if you're gonna spedn the same amount anyway why not do it and get something for free(basicly) instead of paying for it later..

i might get the IW skin and power sword DLC when they get released and hopefully they make power fist and lighting claws DLC aswell, if so ill definatly get them

I'm going to get the pre-order from Zavvi and get a shiny chainsword, hell if they are all going to be PDLC later on then I might as well get the cheapest pre-order and then buy the power sword and skins (and hopefully lightning claws (lightning clawed Raven Guard, FTW!)) later on.

I wonder if you can use say the Space Wolves skin, and colour it differently. Guess you can......

Is it just me or has anyone else had a problem acessing Space Marine on steam? If I search for it, its not there. But I have it on my wishlist and when I click 'view store page' it comes up with this: "An error was encountered while processing your request: This item is currently unavailable in your region".

Space Marine got removed from the UK Steam Store for some reason. A bunch of Brits on RelicNews have been wondering about that and it seems nobody has an answer aside from maybe brick-and-mortar retailers demanding it due to them fearing it would cut too heavily into their sales.

But it is a requirement for it to have a Steam account, so it must be used on Steam so why the hell wouldn't they be able to sell it?

Also I talked to Gorb about it and he said he'd poke Thunder about it when he got the chance.

Because if brick-and-mortar stores refuse to sell it, then you're going to lose a lot of sales due to lack of exposure. Only fans are going to see it on the Steam store, while anyone who walks into a store's PC section is going to see Space Marine. Besides, those people who would grab it off the Steam store are most likely fans of the game who will buy in retail stores even if it isn't on the Steam store.

Good point, but why the hell can't they sell it in both? Or on steam for a limited time or limited quantity or something....

I can get to it on steam http://store.steampowered.com/app/55150/ I live in florida though. I don't know if most of you being in the UK has anything to do with it.

Thunder says that he doesn't know. Which means it's a THQ and/or Steam decision.

Hmm interesting. I take it that its still going to be on steam and a steam account will be required...

Steamworks is confirmed for the game. Yes, that means Steam will be required.

Then it makes no sense for Steam to be required, yet they can't sell it in the UK.

That's why. The general consensus on RelicNews is that THQ pulled it from the UK Steam Store because retail stores got pissy about possible lost sales and refused to stock Space Marine if it appeared in the Steam Store. THQ decided they were better off losing Steam Store sales rather than retail sales, so they removed it from the Steam storefront. This is most likely a THQ decision, not a Steam/Valve decision.

Yeah I was hoping the allied AI would be a bit helpful. At least whip out a combat knife or use the butt of the bolter.

The Blood Ravens are unconcerned about the Chaos forces on Graia. The Blood Ravens are only there to loot the Forgeworld before the Orks do, after all.

Good job I have no life then ;)

But I am quite exited about the Demo, even though I will be back from a holiday the day after I don't really care either way.

Yeah, or who are on their forums. But then I realised that I don't come back from my weekend holiday 'till tuesday, so fudge.

Yeah, I kinda know how you feel. My laptop gave up a while ago and steam gave up yesterday.

Same, if my laptop is ok with it.

But there is no reason why you can, blood. Others might be getting it for the xbox.

Big thanks to NastyNoodle for making these skin packs for Titus. Yes, that really is an Angry Marines texture for Titus.

Stay tuned, as she's planning on adding more.

I've played the demo, and "fucking awesome" is the only way I can describe it. I'm buying this.

There is one really, really bad thing about the demo. It is too short. At least you get to use the power axe and jump pack, but not at the same time sadly.

Alright, I got a nice wall of text about my opinion on this game. Don't get all butt hurt because this is just from what I saw from the demo.

Before I started, I thought this game was purely going to be loud and stupid. While yes, it is, there are a few more thing to it than that. First off, many of you know you perform sync kills, or execution moves, to regain health. This keep you fighting more and waiting in cover for health less.

However, I was surprised that you can still take damage while performing sync kills which makes combat far more interesting as it makes you fight with more finesse rather than jumping into a crowd thoughtlessly. This makes your combats goal-oriented because you want to fight in a way that allows you to tank damage for just long enough so that only a few enemies remain in a secluded spot so you can sync kill your hp back without running the risk of dying. This makes new enemy encounters interesting as you'll have to pay close attention to their patterns and learn what they can do.

What I see that can be a huge problem is the fact that enemies might be too straightforward and only have one or two attacks to draw from. From what little I saw, that's what seems to be the case. Nobs only have one attack, which is a pretty obvious one at that, and Tankbustas simply have their high damage delayed shots. The Tankbustas were enough of a threat that I have to ignore the hordes and deal with them first, and the Nobs didn't allow me to heal off of the Boyz without running the risk of getting horribly owned. The few times I died was mainly due to me fumbling around looking for the Fury button (it's T, I recommend changing it to ctrl, tab, or Z). Once I realized what they were capable of, it wasn't hard for me to change my strategy a bit and engage them properly.

Space Marine is a hack and slash, so let me compare it to the best hack and slash out there: DMC3. What made that game so good, was the way the enemies would play off each other. The enemy's attacks weren't all that varied but they would almost always be perfectly sync with what other enemies were on the screen, which made encounters really interesting. You might find bloodgoyles and Lust demons easy but when paired together, doing long strafing aerial and ground attacks at the same time, you find a new level of difficulty and what would have normally been an easy and forgettable set of enemies becomes a surprisingly difficult engagement that feels very rewarding to overcome.

I don't think Space Marine is going to achieve this, just by simply looking at the universe and the enemies we have already seen from the previews. We know that there are Orks and Chaos in this game and the way they are first encountered is by the two fighting each other. They don't normally work together, and even if they did, those encounters would be few and far inbetween I'm sure. I'm betting that throughout the game, I'll be thinking of all these what-if encounters that could have been challenging and insanely fun and just being disappointed by the end of it.

Now what I'd like to touch on is replayability. I don't know what exactly you unlock throughout the game: if your character gains levels, if you get to spend experience on skills, if these is any progression at all so I'm not going to compare it to anything. But, I will mention that what DMC did really well was how difference each difficulty setting was. The enemies weren't just harder to kill, there were more of them and there were different types added to them, sometimes whole new waves. I played the game on hard and watched a video of someone playing on normal and the encounters seemed the same, he just waded through them all a lot faster. Giving enemies more HP and damage is a **** poor way to add difficulty. That's why I can't play games like Fallout 3/NV because normal is too easy and hardiest just feels like a test of endurance of how many shots I have to put into a Deathclaw before it finally dies. It's less of a game and more of an inventory manager as I have to come prepared with two sets of the same gun (to repair it) and a barrel of ammunition for every 15 minute encounter. That's not fun, that's boring. It's like watching two Plague Marine squads shoot each other with bolters.

Laslty, I think the game IS going in the right direction, however it depends highly on the attention they gave the AI, how the environments impact combat, and the variety/combinations of enemies they throw at you. I'm on the robes about picking up the game because I can't see myself giving this anymore than a single playthrough if the combat isn't up to par with the things I mentioned. Even with mods doing exactly what I wanted this to be, I still have to endure the campaign. If it is short and unengaging, even with the mod, it may still not even be worth the time. I'll wait a little while longer before I decide.

Comparing a game to a game that you hold up at the Best Game Ever is probably not the best mindset to have, in my opinion.

It's like me declaring that nothing is ever as good as I feel DoW II is in it's respective genre (though again this is purely a personal opinion, so whatever goes :)).

Just feels to me like you're slamming it because you found another game the paragon of all such games.

That said, I'm biased. Got to play several chapters of the SP today, and several hours of MP. Much fun was had.
