This was touched on in the previous forum, but I don't think there was considerable progress made in this area. Aside from whipping up a small hidden cp mod, i've compiled a sizeable listing of maps that work with FoK.

I've pulled maps from all the different packages created by all the fine map makers ive seen out there, including some from Soulstorm as well.

However, I have tweaked some of them for better map balance, background verbage, and fixed errors for quite a few of them.

And obviously this is not a complete collection, but a collection of choice maps that are of good sensible play quality, affording the most dynamic battlefields for our FoK experience.

Another thing is this list does not include the original maps, and some of them you may not recognize because they were renamed (i did pull some foreign made maps)

From vol_907: the numbers following the map denote map size (257=approx 256m x 256m, etc). Most machines that can play FoK decently can handle up to 513, but you may need some extra horsepower to take on 1025 maps.

Khorney: feel free to post links you find for these maps to help other peeps find them. note some can be found in the community map pack, which can be downloaded here: http://dawnofwar.filefront.com/file/Com ... _1_4;72441

That is quite the list. I'm going to sticky this for people to see what maps they should download. My latest map, Dead of Winter (4 player) works with FoK as well.

he would need to get permission from everyone who made those maps, downlload them all, zip them up and upload them, which is unecessary. if anyone gets links for these maps, however, post them here and i'll add them into the first post :)

alright, went ahead and added a couple to get this started. quite a few are in the community map packs, however

EDIT: also added a favourite of mine, arcopolis chapel city http://dawnofwar.filefront.com/file/Acr ... City;65568, although not design for FoK, it has has lots of hard cover which breaks line of sight making it a great close quaters infantry fighting map

We've had that problem ever since alpha 2.0, I believe--around the time we incorporated the new reinforce rules for vehicles. For the life of us, we haven't been able to tack down exactly what causes the crashes on certain custom maps. Even the dev mode doesn't help.

I made a DC-based version of Causeway, but it still crashes. Same with Lake Acrimony. Maybe I'll have to redo that one from scratch and see if that fixes it.

If you don't mind, I'm going to leverage a little administrative power and clean up your list some. Break it down in to 2p, 3p, 4p and so on.

Vol, do any of those maps that don't work happen to have world owned buildings? Or Chaos gates?

Thank you very much 0_o

Agritractus was a blast, a map I've been looking for! Two major choke points whittled down to a war of attrition!

I just wish I didn't click "tau" as the enemy... god damned stupid broadside suits ><

None that I remember from that list, but "Maiden World" always gave me trouble (crash after loading).

A 4p map called "Pure Lands"

Made with FoK's economy and reinforcement aura in mind.

Tried to submit to DoWfiles but they have to do the whole, "get back to you" thing.

I took a look at causeway and I think I've found the problem. There were some world owned units. I deleted them. I'm posting a link to the map with the original install .exe and the updated .sgb. Just install the map like normal, then copy the .sgb file into your 'MP' folder and overwrite. Let me know if that works.

Also, I'm going through some DC SP only maps and converting them for MP FoK. Will post them to internal soon(ish).

I've been away for a bit, military stuff. I've been reading the map boards, and i've come to realize that i need to revamp this map list ive provided, to make it more usable (ie, map creator, brief description, playability...and i'm thinking player inputs)

However, i know there's quite a few maps out there, and some more than others (some a lot more than others) could use a good tweaking for maximum FoK playability.

So what's doable? What's acceptable? What about a team of Map Testers, made of everyone who isn't part of the mod creation itself? Or just inputs?

Thoughts?

I found a new defense map (I love those) and found it pretty interesting and it seems to go on very well with FoK it's called Imperial Fortress and you can get it here:

dawnofwar.filefront.com/file/Imperial_Fortress;73474

I had a blast playing it, defending the fortress.

Note: You'll see something like underground passages on the forward left and right side of the starting position of player 1. The passage on the right transports your units (including vehicles) to it's exit, between the two huge gates. The one on the left is the one where your units exit after you made them enter the underground passage on the left side near the gates.

Solardez: I've looked through most, if not all, of the 4p and 6p maps on that list and the ones that work well with FoK (and I could get in contact with the creator) I have included with the internal build of FoK. I think what we can do, going forward, is I will make a map submission thread where people will list a map, creator's name, and short description of why it goes well with FoK. Along with a download link. I'll then look through those and pick the ones that work.

That's an awesome pack compiled there, thanks! However I noticed that the directory it installs to is incorrect; it should say "C:\Program Files\THQ\Dawn of War - Dark Crusade\W40k" rather than "C:\Program Files\Dawn of War - Dark Crusade\W40k". It's not a major problem but it looks a lot like the correct directory and can be overlooked easily.

Ira: after a bit of thought, a bit more thread reading, and taking into account all the maps available, (which there are a LOT of them) i'm going to re-start my previous map quest, entailing a comprehensive search of sound strategic maps available for FoK, and likely categorize them as either Open or Restricted maps.

Its gonna take some time, and the new list i come up with will not encompass all maps that work with FoK, but rather good sensible strategic maps that will support the tactical FoK mindset.

This list will be comprised of maps that have multiple routes leading from/to base starting points, essentially promoting strategic maneuvers. No direct route maps.

Of course, these will all be suggestions, and exclude the maps already included with FoK.

@ Cpt Bedango: the directory it installs to is the default directory DoW installs to. Guessing you moved it, ive installed it on 2 computers and its been in THQ folder

I have had great fun playing the public RC on these three 4-player maps (taken from dowfiles):

Temple Capture – 513 2v2

The Awakened - 257 free-for-all

The 12th Winter – 513 2v2

Concerning this particular thread, and possibly the others in the Maps section, I would like to offer this suggestion, being that there are so many different maps:

Re-start (and re-energize) this topic with a singular purpose, a list of maps generated by the members of this forum (maps enjoyed and preferred often)... then updated as such on the very first message (like the bug submission topics).

Only brief suggestions would be needed.

For example:

Pleasant Little Islands (4p, 513) - good quality, good terrain placement, multiple pathways, lotsa room to maneuver troops and tanks.

Members would be encouraged to offer short comments on the map as well, and each good or bad comment (with respect to the suggesting member of course) could be counted and logged in the list as a simple number.

For example:

Pleasant Little Islands (4p, 513) 4 / 3

This would give all members a quick reference to map popularity.

I offer this as the most simplest and effective of ways to create a mod friendly map list that can be tracked and updated as needed on this forum, and everyone can participate in.

Terminus Est (1024x512 4p)

The famed Plague ship of nurgle. Features awsome terrain. It is really close quarters combat, and the computer plays a meh enemy in it, but with four human players it could be quite awsome.

You do however have to use a lot of map veiws to see what is going on. It features many places where you can not see from a top down veiw, and some places where you are going to need to play around with camera angles
