right well, I'm a complete and utter noob at it. its very tedious and time consuming work which i don't really enjoy. but i do hope to someday get better at it.
had my first "real" go at it on a plasma pistol i made for a MoW mod.

it may look alright there but on the UV chart those with more experience in this area would most likely vomit at its very sight. very very messy and unorganized, at least i think so(wouldn't know what a good one looks like). will have to read up some tutorial on how to properly, or just find another program to do it in since i doubt Wings3D's is the best one to use.

this isn't a thread for my own stuff, anyone can post their work here.

Wings3D apparently has a very good uv mapper from what i've seen around other forums.

use a checkered texture (squares) to see how the uv map looks on the model.

Wings does come with a autoUV feature but i don't really like it. a lot of times it will come out really strange and you find yourself having to do it manually anyway.
either that or I'm doing something wrong.

alright so i did, though i just took one off a site and slapped it on the chart in GIMP. hope that was what you meant

not sure what to make out of it, do notice that a lot of places(the whole thing) don't lineup properly.

If you can, try to get the pieces to line up and the squares the same size. that's how you know you've got a good uv layout as each part will have the same texture resolution (where as you look at the un modified dow1 textures there's a lot of blurryness in the weapons and such)

the slanted desk being the first i made and drawer after that, which is why its noticeably better.

still have a long way to go..

Plasma Pistol UV looked fine; UVmapping will always be tedious and painstaking nomatter how long you spend practising it or how familiar you get with it.

That's about all I can say, I frigging hate doing it.

It's not really that bad tbh. I uv map on the go with modelling, and makes it less tedious. If you are modelling characters, the best thing is if you find unwrella plugin or something for max. Makes things so much easier.
