They are different games and should be treated as such.

Read up on the game before you buy.

Also, putting "FoK" in a poll to do with popularity on an FoK forum is somewhat biased and unhelpful.

Try DoW2 with this: http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=236142&page=1
But I would wait 'till the next release is out (which could be a while) as there is several bugs and a big one which doesn't let you get past a certain point.

Calgar, thanks for not addressing the OP's concerns and just promoting a modification you personally like.

Read the thread before posting next time, please.

Translation; lrn2post. i.e.-

Try the demo off Steam, make your own opinion of it. Most whiners about DoW2 haven't even played it because they either can't run it or their parents won't buy it for them. But as soon as they do get it, it suddenly becomes God's Gift to Men.

Eh, I think the three options are legit.
I'm long done with vanilla Soulstorm and DC, but I return to FoK periodically. Really the difference is the engine, and I'm about ready for DoW to be done with whatever it is this iteration (Company of Heroes?) and move on to something grander.

Retribution's solid enough, the campaigns just shine with personality. Almost enough to make lie of the replaying the same maps over and over so quickly.
The outstanding ones are easily the Orks and Eldar, with third place being the SMs and the rest following ably enough.

I'm hoping FoK trundles merrily along while it can. I'm still rooting for moar, having a fondness for Striking Scorpions and Swooping Hawks and Sisters of Battle, as these are all things missing from the original DoW editions.

The Autarch makes me squee though. Skyleap is so completely sexy. Space Elf CAX!

in my opinion the first game was the best...
reason number 1: it has the best campaign (moostly because of me being the bad guy  )
reason number 2: all other games have **** storyline, although good gameplay
reason number 3: eldar had perfect level of gameplay, ever since dark crusade they are ****
reason number 4: termies/obls were relic units instead of faggy 1 limit
reason number 5: cultie nade rush was what won me the game almost every time
reason number 6: the best feature of the game: SINDRIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!1111!!1
but that's just my opinion, i will respect other people's opinion as long as they respect MINE

DoW1 hands down. I'm an RTS player, I like base building, I like amassing a huge army and then decimating the opponent's base. I AM a conqueror. I also liked Soulstorm because of the Dark Eldar (normally I like Chaos usually because I like playing a villainous or evil role).

Dow2 brought about what I knew to be an inevitability, Dow's conversion from an RTS to an RPG. RPGs and FSP dominate the market right now, and it pisses me off. The last good RTS' that came out were Shogan 2 and Civ 5.

I don't like the combat style in DoW2. You're leading what feels like a small squad of guys and fighting over control points. BLEH! The graphics and the Tyranids were the only good thing to come out of it (and the advanced cover system)
