As you all may have gathered, the plan naturally is to give DOW 2 SP and MP the old "FOK" treatment. For the SP campaign, our first target, we'll be doing a number of things:

- Bring squad sizes inline with codex but keeping them manageable with regard to pathing and such.

- Bring weapon ranges, rates of fire, and damage inline with codex while keeping in mind this is an RTS here.

- Bring unit HP, armour types, and movement rates inline with codex while, again, keeping in mind this is an RTS.

The squads you get in vanilla DOW 2 SP will still be there...just a bit different in terms of size and unit composition.

With MP, we'll be using the same unit build times and costs that one can find in FOK. Due to the current nature of DOW 2's cap system, we can't use unit categories the way we used to...but we'll figure out something.

As with DOW40K and FOK, codex will be used as a baseline for keeping things consistent and balanced with regard to stats. Ultimately though, we want DOW40K II to feel "fluffy" and be playable. We'll keep you posted on developments with the mods as we get things done.

On a side note, I think it's a given that some of you have been eagerly waiting for this announcement...and some of you kinda saw this coming :mrgreen:

I would like to post my first bug!
Something strange seems to happen when squad size is changed on that mission where you have to find the array. I think its because that Lictor is scripted to kill someone straight out and the games don't like that.
Just something to look out for ;)

You had to activate it through Steam, right? Then you should just be able to log into that account and redownload it.

so you guys found a way to put in your own models? i havtn kept pace with Dow 2 since i thought it was unmodable.. but they also said that about COH.. but that changed!.. so im hoping to see the good old big battles of DOW with FOK table top and new units! for real!??! im so excited! but i would say wait a bit i see you guys have a model fot the land raider but they also showed off a land raider in the offical forums you might as well take their model and modify it with the weapons you guys want to have to make all the LR models.. and it seems the Leman russ is coming .. well atleast i hope as you see the pic of DOW 2 R. so i hope to see all the Lemans back!.. i can't wait!

I don't want to sound negative.
But they have announced dawn of war 3, and that it will be a greater scale game.
Now i recognize that i don't know how much resoursers you put in the dow2 mod.
But it just seems that it might be best to fix fok then maybe moving directly to dow3?

I disagree. I genuinely have some great fun with that. Don't see how it's bad at all.

And Relic did talk about Dawn of War 3 a ways back before Retribution released; they responded to a question about a DoW3 and said that they'd leave that news of DoW3 for after Retribution was all said and done. Not an official announcement, but not a denial.

Even if Dawn of War 3 was officially announced, it'd be months to years before we saw it. Lord knows if it would even include mod tools. So no, the team's got the right idea methinks. Firestorm's still chugging along and Warpstorm will be out for Retribution.
As for competition, well healthy competition never hurts eh?

This is off-topic, but rumours of DoW III were solidly refuted, more than once, by Relic's community manager.

And this isn't the place to offer my opinions on the Codex Mod, but it's creator has a habit of trolling DoW II balance discussions despite never playing MP. And then he claims that the MP changes in his modification are balanced and awesome.

I was just wondering, since the campaign of Soulstorm and Dark Crusade were locked out due to technical issues, is the Retribution campaign still going to be part of the mod?

And how will you handle wargear? Unlocked from the start or stingy like the game?

Still the game seems to work alright though. Eldar are a pain in the ass to use as usual and Marines are small in number expensive and powerful, etc etc. Nids though spam Tyranoform all the frakking time...against my allies for some reason. My base will never be touched, but the 1 or 2 next to mine will be swimming in spines.

Sucks about his attitude though, that's no way to go about things. :|

So my original post still stands, dow3 will be larger scale and a better platform once released. And the Codex mod will kick ass when the retribution version releases so despite what you think Gorb, there is hard competition.
