Heya Guys,

Sorry I am just wondering with regards to what we currently have in game at the moment and what is available to us, I understand other mods are using dow2 content and in some cases even war-hammer space marine content, where would we stand on using other content?

there are a few perspectives which would need to be covered obviously such as,

1: legality

2: content distribution purposes

3: Legal ownership of purchased content.

As far as I am aware though as long as you have the other games installed/own a legal copy of the game you are able to include content in ways you see fit.

So in other words if you have dawn of war 1 and include dawn of war 2 content to it you could legally dispense a mod to other community members who OWN legal copies of war 1 and dawn of war 2.

So in other words FoK could include extra game content and distribute it legally ONLY to people who own all original content legally.

Not to people who have only the one game or own illegal copies

And if that is the case could we actively use the content?

Only thinking out loud with regards to potential resources.

We still need to get permission from Ferrum re: those Tyranids and other DoW2 ported assets.

I support the asking for permission, but I find it incredibly odd that we have to ask someone's permission to use something that Relic made, ripped from another game. It doesn't exactly take rocket science to do that.

I believe its due to the fact they provided the effort and additional support to get it converted over hence it was their work that should be given permission for. :|

Is it worth me drafting/creating a letter to relic (probably will never get read) just to specify what we would like to do and so we have at least have an idea where we stand?

Well I don't remotely think so as many other DOW1 projects have released DOW2 content with their launch and I only hear crickets so...

Relic are stuck in a grey area considering GW's influence on their assets. Feel free to use whatever ported assets you want (personally I think FoK has it's own decent style and DoW II is a different, decent style), but don't look to any official clarification.

Rip the models, import into Max, clear up the bones (possibly, though given the animation issues I doubt they've even done that). Maybe attach some new FX markers.

It's not a lot of work. The bulk of the work was done by Relic. As I said, I support the asking of permission. I just don't think these guys should get to pass off the content as their own (which they basically are doing on their mod pages). Personal opinion :)

Would it not be talking to a brick wall asking Relic on this anyway? You are far more likely to get a response from the modder whom actually did the official export then some corp so default goes to the modder whom actually took the cycles to do the effort. Regardless, whatever you chaps decide.

Trust me. I asked Relic ;)

Use them if you want, I'm not going to sit around and veto possible art assets. I just don't think they're a good aesthetic fit for the mod. But that's just my opinion.

Awesome, i've been speaking with the creator of the Black Crusade mod, ferrum infernus, We may be allowed some assets. I'll keep pestering and will generate an advisory download requirements list.

Make the emphasis on the downloader not the uploader.

Whoaaa what you spoke with Ferrum? For some reason I have no clue why he does not respond to me anymore and WE REALLY NEED to talk with him on various Astartes, Chaos, Imperial, and Tyranid assets asap.
